Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl can be installed in any room above or below grade and over most subfloors as long as they are smooth and level. It is particularly popular in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and basements because it is water‑resistant.

LVP is designed to resemble hardwood planks and is thicker and stiffer than standard vinyl. It usually features a click‑lock system and can be installed as a floating floor. LVT mimics stone or ceramic tile and may be glued down or clicked together. Both fall under the broader term “luxury vinyl flooring”.

Vinyl is considered a resilient floor because it has “give” and bounces back after impact. Modern vinyl features tough wear layers that resist scratches and scuffs, making it suitable for busy households and pet owners. However, heavy furniture should be fitted with protective pads.

Some luxury vinyl products have an attached pad and do not require additional underlayment. Others may benefit from a thin underlayment to improve acoustics and comfort. Always check product specifications.

The choice between laminate and vinyl depends on your space and priorities. Vinyl is perfect for moisture-prone areas like kitchens and bathrooms due to its waterproof nature. Laminate, with better scratch resistance and a sturdier feel, is ideal for dry areas and typically costs less upfront. Vinyl handles spills well, while laminate resists dents but may swell with water exposure.
